Electrical Workers Minority Caucus (EWMC) Webinar Series - Fighting for Our Democracy and a Better Future in the Age of the Pandemic
Updated On: Jul 26, 2020
The Electrical Workers Minority Caucus (E.W.M.C) is delighted to invite you to Part 1 of our national webinar series “The War on Workers: Coronavirus Style.” This webinar is presented by Mark McDermott, an economic justice and labor educator who has been working for economic, racial, and social justice for many years. Brother McDermott is a long-time ally of the EWMC, and we are incredibly pleased to be working together. Mark and our EWMC co-host will present an interactive experience by engaging you through various features of Zoom technology. We want to create a dialogue despite the challenges of social distancing and virtual presentations.
This webinar will focus on how the pandemic has created new opportunities for the anti-union, anti-worker Trump administration and its corporate allies to step up their decades-long war against workers and our right to organize. The fundamental right to refuse dangerous work and the right to a safe workplace are under extreme attacks. These growing attacks hit particularly hard at low wage workers, workers of color, immigrants, and women. These attacks are particularly fierce in the meatpacking industry in small town America where immigrants and people of color make up the majority of the workforce. Many are being coerced back to work in workplaces with very high rates of COVID-19 infections and lack of adequate health and safety precautions. Millions of essential workers face these unjust challenges.
At the same time, workers are not just fighting back. They are fighting forward demanding justice at work. All Americans need to support all workers in defending and expanding our rights to a more just, equitable and safe future. Which side are you on?
This webinar will take place Aug 2, 2020 at 7:30 PM Eastern time (US and Canada). You can CLICK HERE to be taken to the webinar registration page.
