Help us welcome Brother Deon Mayes, the newest member of the EWMC Executive Committee!
Updated On: Jun 24, 2017

Our National Executive Board has appointed Deon Mayes to the recently vacated spot on the Executive Board.  Deon is a member of IBEW Local 11 in Los Angeles and has been a member of EWMC since 2006.  He currently serves as the Assistant Training Director of the IBEW/Los Angeles NECA Joint Apprenticeship Training Center and President of the Los Angeles EWMC Chapter.  He was initiated into the IBEW in 2001 as an apprentice in the Sound and Communications Unit and went on to eventually work in a supervisory role for several NECA-member contractors in the Los Angeles area.  The last project he oversaw was the new Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport.  During his time in the IBEW, he has received much recognition for his efforts including Outstanding Apprentice in 2004, the Dennis Kelly Safety Award in 2014, and an EWMC Appreciation Award in 2015.

Since joining the IBEW in 2001, Deon has also been an active IBEW member volunteering to assist in the local’s political outreach efforts and serving on negotiating, welfare, and picnic committees.  Additionally, he has held several positions within the local including JATC instructor, Executive Board member, Vice Chair of the Sound and Communications Unit, and Vice President of the Los Angeles EWMC Chapter. He has also served as a member of the Committee that was formed to coordinate the EWMC’s International Day of Service efforts.

During Deon’s stint as Chapter President, the Local 11 Chapter has seen increased membership, increased fundraising efforts, and a commitment to community service and outreach.  As a former member of the EWMC’s Youth Caucus, he has worked to ensure that the Local 11 Chapter continues its commitment to develop and empower the up and coming young workers within the Chapter.  He credits the growth and successes the Chapter has experienced to the hard work of the dynamic members of his Chapter.  He is also incredibly thankful for mentors like Eric Brown, Dick Reed, and Marvin Kropke and his amazingly supportive wife and daughter.
